One of my favorite things about piñatas, besides the candy, is all the festive streamer garland hanging from it.

So this season, instead of hanging all the magic from a stick, I’m making that same fluffy, frilly goodness right at home.

These fringed garland streamers are soft, textural, and so easy to make.

I made them for Thanksgiving, but will use them for all my fall parties, birthdays, and just to add a little fun to our space this season.

DIY Streamer Garland

Supplies:

  • Streamers are most affordable from the local box or Dollar stores. I also love the colors Meri Meri has to buy.
  • Scissors
  • A sewing machine, or needle and thread

How to make easy DIY streamer garland at home.

Here’s how to make them:

  • Start by stacking four lengths of paper streamers on top of each other.
  • Run them through the sewing machine (or stitch by hand if you’re feeling crafty and patient).
  • Fold the whole thing in half along the stitched line.
  • If you want a little extra fluff factor, I often trim the edges with pinking shears before I start fringing.

Now, fringe along the loose edge, just be careful not to snip through your stitching.

Once you’re done, use your fingers to separate the layers and ruffle everything until it’s full and bouncy.

The result?

Light, fluttery strands that look like piñata fringe had a serious glow-up moment.

Streamers fall party garland.

Hang them across a mantle along with my color-matching felt ball garland, down the hallway, or over the dessert table for instant celebration vibes.

The same simple steps can be used to create soft, fluffy strands of garlands. Aren’t they delightful?

I’m hoping the texture of these streamers in their pretty fall hues will bring a fun dose of festive to my Wigsgiving celebration this season.
