These velvet Easter eggs are such an upgrade to the traditional egg dying experience.
When eggs are as pricey as they are these days, they better look the part! 😉 And these ones certainly do.
I was inspired by these velvet ornaments to create a fun variation for Easter. Dyed eggs that have the prettiest texture and pastel color palette for Easter morning.
The project is easy enough that the kids can help with it too. Infact, mine loved the process of covering the eggs in the baking powder.
Supplies
To make these pretty velvet easter eggs you’ll need:
- Eggs that are hard boiled, I suggest starting with white eggs for this project.
- A basic dying kit or any make at home dyes that you love.
- Baking powder
- A thick bristle paint brush
Although not a necessary supply, I recommend covering the area you will be creating these eggs in with paper towels or an easy to wash towel. The baking powder does make a bit of a mess.
Instructions:
To make the velvet textured eggs start by dying your eggs however you like best.
The eggs will need to be wet for this process to work, so dying is a must not miss step in the process.
1. Take your wet egg and cover it with baking powder.
To do this you can use a sifter, fill a small strainer like I did, or however you want to do it. Make sure the eggs are still damp, not dripping wet when you cover them.
2. Allow these to dry this like completely.
You are going to want to start the next step quickly, but don’t do it. Let your eggs sit until completely dry up to 24 hours before moving on.
3. Once your eggs are completely dry, take the thick bristle brush and gently start brushing off the baking powder.
You might have to do a couple runs to get the correct texture and be sure to brush off any clumps.
What is left behind is a powder residue that coats the eggs just perfectly! They look like a million bucks, which is great since they cost so much right now anyway. 😉
