In less than four steps, these marshmallow pool floats are the quickest way to add a bit of joy to your summer coffee. Add a Flamingo, or two, and spruce up any drink with a little marshmallow fun.
Grab pastry paint, a bag of marshmallows, a knife, and get ready to add a touch of summer to your next baby shower or summer-themed party. These would also be crazy cute on a cake!

Life preserver marshmallows are a fun and fresh way to add a touch of summer to your drink.
Simple edible life float materials
To make your DIY marshmallow pool floats, you’ll need:
- A bag of large marshmallows (or more, depending on your desired amount)
- Food coloring/icing paint
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- Container for storing
- Wax paper
*Optional but strongly encouraged – Flamingo Tooth Picks found here.

Creating the DIY Marshmallow Pool Floats
1. Start by cutting each of your marshmallows into small sections. I recommend using a pairing knife to cut out the center of each marshmallow.
2. Once the life preserver shape is created, lay out your marshmallow circles on a wax paper-covered cutting board to allow them to paint.
3. Use a small brush and colored icing tint to paint on your stripes.
I went with a traditional pool float pattern, but feel free to have fun with this step!
Pro Tip: Do not dilute the tint, just brush straight onto your marshmallow circles. The more vibrant, the better!
3. Allow each float to fully dry before removing.

Once dry, the marshmallows will keep in a closed container for about a week.
These cute mugs would make for a fun party activity and favor.
Simply grab any plain white mugs (I used these raised-dotted mugs) and a nail polish or two to decorate them. Using bright pinks or other summer colors will bring your favorite warm drink straight into the summer season.
