I first tried it as a Christmas crack variation, but knew it would be so good for a recent birthday party that we had.

There is a reason they call this crack, no matter what event or holiday you make it for… it is so crazy addicting!

Sometimes, viral things go viral because they really are just that great! And this birthday crack recipe is one you will be making in every variation you can imagine.

Here’s my take on it:

Birthday Crack Recipe

To make the birthday crack you’ll need:

  • 1 pack of lays potato chips
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 pack semi-sweet chocolate
  • Sprinkles to finish it off

Start by layering your chips on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper.

The first step is to make the toffee layer:

To do this combine the 2 sticks of butter wit 2 cups of brown sugar and stir with a whisk until combined.

It will melt and turn an amber color. That’s when you know it’s ready.

Carefully pour this over your chips until fully covered.

Place in the oven at 350 for about 7-9 minutes.

Add the chocolate layer

Next we cover it in chocolate:

Pull out of the oven and sprinkle your chocolate chips on the mixture, this doesn’t have to be perfect as long as it is mostly covered

Stick back in the oven for about 3-5 more minutes.

Once you pull it out, you’ll need to work fast while it’s all still hot. Use a spatula and spread the chocolate out evenly over the mixture.

Now, it’s time for the fun stuff! Cover this all with sprinkles, extra crushed up chips, nuts, really anything you want to bring home that crack like sweet and salty combo.

Allow this to cool and then place the whole thing in the fridge for 4-6 hours to set.

It has such a satisfying crisp when you crack it in half and tastes so incredibly good!
